Version 2.0 Development

As some of you may know I’m currently working on version 2.0 of the ACL Editor and Simulator.

This version promises to be far better the version 1.0. Its being built with with an Architecture that will allow myself or other developers to create Addons/Plugins which “slot” into and run from the main application.

And no this isnt going to be a “tarted up first version”, I’m developing this from the ground up.

The base application will include:

  • ACL Editor (of course)
  • ACL Simulator (not sure if this will become a Plugin yet)
  • IP Address and Wild Card Mask Calculator (To see the “range” of IP Addresses the IP Address with a Wild Card Masks covers)

With the first Plugins:

  • ACL Importer (From clipboard to the ACL Editor)
  • ACL Optimisation (To optimise the ACL List using WildCard Masks)

BETA Testers

I’m looking for BETA testers if anybody’s interested. A good understanding of ACLs will be most helpful to me and you.

Fancy it? gareth[_at_]garethevans[_dot_]info

Licensing
The first version license was PER MACHINE, after many enquires (and complaints) I’ve changed this to be PER ACCOUNT.

[For example] So rather than paying 3 x £x for a license for three licenses for three machines before you will now only pay 1 x £x for a license and be able to install the application with the SAME license on three machines.

As before, there will also be a corporate version of the license available for education establishments.

There will also be a feature, for example if you’ve had to reinstall the ACL Editor and you’ve lost your license details the application will fetch the license details for you (once you’ve authenticated and proofed that your you of course).

Plugins can be licensed or free – that decision will lie with the developer.

The majority of the configuration for the application will be held in XML Files, so some user based configuration will be possible – at their own risk of course.

Any ideas, suggestions or feedback on version 2.0 of the application – feel free to contact me using the email address above.
